What to do when you don’t like the Super Bowl
I love football. I played football, I coached football. I love the strategy of the game. I’m a lifelong fan of the Los Angeles Rams, even when they were the St Louis Rams, I have an autographed Kurt Warner Rams helmet. I am a fairweather fan of the Patriots. I enjoyed watching Brady and Bellicheck because they often took complete hopelessness and turned it into a victory. Now the Pats are playing like they did in the 70s which is a period nobody wants to remember.
The NFL became too political for me. I don’t like politics mixed in with sports. Sports should bring us together not pull us apart.
So I love Football— College Football. I have an autographed Joe Montana Notre Dame helmet next to my Rams one. Because I’m both a male and have said football helmets prominently displayed in my home casual visitors both family and friends naturally assume I must love the Super Bowl— and I just don’t. I don’t like that it’s played indoors— Football should be played in the elements. I don’t like that they’ve turned it into an event. I can honestly say even when I have watched the Super Bowl I have NEVER seen a single second of the half-time show from any of the 59 years of it being played.
Worse, this year the game was between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs— two teams I not only don’t care about whit about, I REALLY don’t care. There is nothing more boring than watching a five hour game where you don’t care what’s happening.
It’s funny how people react when you say you’re not watching it— they look at you increduously like there are Lobsters climbing out of your head. “Don’t you at least love the commercials?”
No I don’t. So this year the game was played and one of the teams one, there was probably some controversy during the game, the half-time show was an incredible display of whatever they do at the half-time show— and it was one of the most exciting offensive game (or slowest defensive game) people have ever seen.
This year it was free on streaming. I did order some Buffalo Wings because Wings Over ™ was having so many specials it was hard to pass up the deal.
So what do you do when you don’t like the Super Bowl— anything you want to do.
