VERTIGO (1958) Alfred Hitchcock
VERTIGO is an oddity— it was a commercial flop when it was first released, many felt Jimmy Stewart played too old. Ironic that Hitch would go to Cary Grant for his next film (he wanted Grant for this one) and that one was a hit but Grant was OLDER than Stewart.
Then the movie fell out of circulation as the rights reverted back to Hitch so it wasn’t seen for many many years building its reputation, when it was finally re-released it became heralded as Hithcock’s masterpiece. It’s not.
It’s beautiful, it’s stylish, it’s also convoluted and overly long, but you’ll have a good time with it so it’s recommended.
