I passionately read comics from 1978-1982. I'd had them before that of course and "read" them like a kid does but I really got into them in the late 70s and that was right around the time Don Newton came on to the Batman titles. I think he started in Detective Comics but what does that matter? What I loved about Newton then (and still to this day) is his Batman is completely unique and there is a great cartoony style to his work.
Newton did a LOT of Batman too-- he worked on the title all the way up to his untimely death in the 80s. I gave up comics when I went to art school but I always kept an eye on what was going on.
More Batman next week.
